Earlier today I visited Leipzig to play MTW II (and some other games) at the Games Convention. The first thing I noticed while watching some people playing the game was that the title clearly said "Demo" and I asked the guy from Sega whether there is going to be a demo available for download in the next time. He didn't give me a clear date, but said that it is going to be released soon after the Games Convention. When one of the presentation PCs was free I started to play. The first thing I did was taking a closer look at the units. Due to the variety in the skins and animations the MTW II units look much more lifelike. The sterile landscape of RTW is gone, too. Some nice shader effects and new vegetation make the environment almost look as good as in Oblivion (remember...I said "almost"). After I ordered my troops to attack (it was the first battle in the battle-list...it starts with a P, but I don't know the rest of the name) I noticed that the game was lagging on the presentation PC, but the Sega-guy couldn't tell me about the system requirements or the systems they used for the presentation. So I just kept playing.
The units move much more like real people in the battles and the blood-feature works well, too. When a unit gets hit once it becomes bloody. When it gets hit some more times it dies and is being killed by a nice finishing move (there isn't a big variety in the finishing moves sad.gif ). But since the battles are pretty fast and you have to concentrate on all your troops if you want to win you won't have much time to watch one soldier searching an enemy and killing him after a duel.
The cavalry looks very realistic due to the different horse colours and the new animations and can nearly only be stopped by Pikemen and other cavalry. The Dieing animations for the riders fit to the animations of the horses so that unlike in RTW they won't fall through the horse when they get killed.
The artillery (cannons) fires it's projectiles nearly straight at the enemy. (the can hit targets that are about half-a-map-away ^^ ) To save your troops you just have to move them behind a hill and the cannons won't hit them anymore (they won't just fire straight into the air to hit your troops from above like archers...). Once unprotected the artillery is very easy to take out. So always keep them protected by pikemen and archers/crossbowmen.
